Why am I here?! - SWING BOY v2.1.8 Update

This update included replacing the current level select screen and adding a Hub world to introduce some of the story. The new starting area includes talking with an NPC and getting the grappling gun. The player can then access levels through different doors. This is more immersive than selecting levels through a UI, and allows for story events to happen in-game without interrupting the flow of the main levels.

Other minor additions included an expanded settings menu. There are now 2 sections, sound and graphics. One new settings option has been added since the last update, and that allows the player to disable the lighting effects. Some people were having FPS issues in the browser version, so this allows players to lower the graphics for a smoother experience. Although I would still suggest the downloads for the best experience.

New features:

  • Added NPC dialog system for displaying conversations
  • New starting area to give more story info and hub world for level selection
  • Added ability to disable lighting FX

Visual updates:

  • Added milliseconds to timer for more accurate level speedrunning
  • Removed level select screen
  • Removed old logo
  • Updated settings menu

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed WASD controls

I also did some re-branding. I have decided to remove the “Yellowbyte Studios” name and logo from this game. This is because I feel it is more personal if I just use my name.

I don’t want to spoil any surprises about future updates, so I’ll leave it there. Just know that I am always working on the game, and new things will bye coming real soon!

Thanks for reading! :)

Played the new version! I like that there's now something of an opening scene explaining why you are in the sewers in the first place and how you get the grappling hook. I actually legitimately enjoy playing this game, it reminds me of the old days where all I used to play were platformer games. One thing I would suggest adding is a continue button that automatically loads the latest level you have unlocked, it just kinda gets repetitive having to run all the way to the end of the hub to get to the current level. Overall though, it's quite a nice update!

First person to post on one of my devlogs. :D Thanks for the feedback (again). I know a few bugs (as well as the one you mentioned) introduced by the new level selection areas that will need to be fixed in the next update. I'm glad you enjoy playing. :)
